Noted victims’ rights advocate warns TV viewers about recalled consumer products

DALLAS — Dallas attorney Angel Reyes III, founder of Reyes Bartolomei Browne, is warning parents and families to be careful and selective about the products they buy and bring into their homes.

During his recent appearance on the "Good Morning Texas" television program, Mr. Reyes discussed various products that have been recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), including a dangerous baby bassinet and window blinds that pose strangulation hazards for children. The popular "Good Morning Texas" program airs weekdays from 9–10 a.m. (CST) on Dallas’ WFAA-TV Channel 8.



"Recalled items are a problem all year long, not just at the holidays, which is when we most often hear about recalled toys," Reyes says. "All of us need to keep an eye out for items that may be recalled so we can make sure they don’t end up in our homes."

The bassinet Mr. Reyes discussed was manufactured by Simplicity Inc., of Reading, Pa. The CPSC recalled the "close-sleeper/bedside-sleeper" bassinets following four infant strangulation deaths attributed to the bassinet’s design. The CPSC says parents who have one of the bassinets should return it to the store where they bought it for a refund or store credit.

Mr. Reyes also told viewers that an easy means of checking on these and other recalls is to visit the CPSC Web site at http://www.cpsc.gov. Another site, http://www.recalls.gov, acts as a clearinghouse for such troubled products.
