Asbestos | Mesothelioma Cancer

The mesothelium is a sac membrane that surrounds and protects most of the body's internal organs. The first layer of the mesothelium covers the organ and the second creates a protective sac around it. Mesothelioma is a cancerous tumor that affects the mesothelial cells of a particular organ. The most common type is pleural mesothelioma, which affects the membranes of the lungs. The second type is peritoneal mesothelioma, which affects the membranes of the abdominal cavity.

Mesothelioma is a deadly cancer that can spread quickly. The most common initial symptoms of this disease are shortness of breath and constant chest pain. As the disease progresses, other symptoms may include weight loss, abdominal pain and swelling, bowel constriction, blood clotting abnormalities, fever and anemia. The primary treatments for mesothelioma are radiation therapy and chemotherapy. As with other cancers, there are also experimental clinical treatments available.

Decades ago, asbestos was commonly used in building and construction materials such as cement, ceiling and floor tiles, gaskets, insulation, fireproofing and acoustical materials, and more. Workers were unaware that they were being exposed to asbestos, and would ultimately die from mesothelioma. As this horrible disease doesn’t manifest itself until numerous years after exposure, many people have only recently experienced symptoms or died from mesothelioma. There is strong evidence to suggest that numerous manufacturers and distributors knew for years that asbestos was dangerous, but did not disclose this information to the general public.

Reyes Bartolomei Browne works with the top attorneys across the country to help families of victims who have fallen prey to the deception from asbestos manufacturers and distributors. If you or someone you care about has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, it may be possible to obtain a cash award from the manufacturer(s) at fault.
